Messages

How private messages work on ZAVUZI, and what you can do if something goes wrong. Messaging is available to people aged 18 or over during the private alpha.

1.Message requests

  • Someone you don't follow may send you a request before a conversation starts. A request is one message — they can't send more until you reply or accept.
  • You can accept, decline, report or block.
  • Declining is private. The other person isn't told you declined.
  • You choose who can message you in Settings → Messages.

2.Blocking

  • Blocking stops new messages in both directions.
  • Your earlier conversation may stay visible to both of you, read-only, under Blocked.
  • Either of you can still report messages from that earlier conversation.

3.Delete conversation for me

  • This hides the conversation for you only.
  • It doesn't delete the other person's copy.
  • If they're still allowed to message you and send something new, the conversation comes back with just the new messages.

4.Reporting

  • You can report a message you received, or report the other account from the conversation menu.
  • Reporting a message shares that message and up to 5 messages before it with ZAVUZI's safety team. Later messages aren't included.
  • Reporting an account from Messages only includes messages if you choose to — up to the last 10. Otherwise only your report is sent.
  • Reports are private. The person you report isn't told who reported them.

5.Removed messages

  • ZAVUZI may remove messages that break the Community Guidelines.
  • A removed message shows as "Removed by ZAVUZI" for both people.

6.Privacy

  • ZAVUZI staff don't routinely browse private conversations.
  • When something is reported, a fixed copy of the limited messages described above is saved for the report. Authorised safety staff may see that copy — not your live conversation.
  • Access to saved messages is restricted to the staff member reviewing the report (or an admin with a recorded reason), needs two-step verification, and every view is logged.
  • Messages are not end-to-end encrypted.
